A moderate storm, the first of a normally wet December, brought up to an inch of welcome rain, and inches of mountain snow, before traveling into northern Baja Tuesday night. Only a few light showers remained Tuesday evening across San Diego County, with some still possible Wednesday morning. Skies began to clear from the north across Riverside County Tuesday evening.
Since the precipitation was mostly steady rain and not showers, the rain totals show the typical orographic (mountain enhanced) pattern. Since this weather system had moisture lifted over the Santa Ana Mountains, the highest totals were generally near or lee of that range, while the lighter totals were in areas generally in the "rain shadow" of the mountains, such as Riverside, Hemet, Moreno Valley, Perris.
Fallbrook had the highest total for the storm, as it often does, with 0.99" recorded. De Luz, also one of the wetter areas, was just behind at 0.96".
The lowest totals were in Riverside (0.29") and Beaumont (0.31").
